EDUCATION & OUTREACH PROGRAMS
As the largest professional not-for-profit theatre company in Northern California, we not only bring the joy of live performance to 135,000 patrons, we also deliver arts education to 10,000 students and make theatre accessible for 4,000 patrons who would normally not attend the theatre.

EDUCATION SPONSORSHIPS
Writing a Musical
A professional performer and experienced theatre educator provides instruction in the classroom to create an original musical with middle school students. The program culminates with a staged reading performance using professional actors and students
Educational Matinee
Offers K-12 school students discounted tickets to see a special matinee performance of a production for just $8 per ticket. Teachers are sent Educational Study Guides that help prepare the students for what they will see onstage, along with cross-curricular lesson plans.
High School Musical Theatre HONORS
The musical productions of up to 30 Bay Area high schools will be reviewed and critiqued on an individual basis by theatre professionals. Each participating school receives awards for participation and outstanding certificates for certain categories within the production. In May 2008, we will celebrate all of the participants in AMTSJ’s High School Musical Theatre HONORS program at a special awards ceremony at the Center for the Performing Arts.
Technical Theatre Institute
An intensive three-week summer program that is both hands-on and lecture-based covering such areas as set construction, scenic painting, costume construction, crafts/props, lighting, sound, wigs/makeup, and stage management.
Theatre Arts Conservatory
A five-week comprehensive study of fundamental, intermediate, and advanced musical theatre practices. Current working professionals teach the classes in our rehearsal studios with renowned guest artists. The conservatory is open to all students aged 14 to adult. Full and partial scholarships are needed.
Student Performance Series
Gives students and teachers the opportunity to attend any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday main stage performance for $14.75 ticket price. This special offer makes attending live theatre more affordable, thus providing greater access to the arts.
OUTREACH SPONSORSHIPS
Accessibility Services
We are committed to bringing a great theatre experience to all of our patrons. We have a nationally recognized accessibility program and continually strive to accommodate persons with disabilities and make our productions accessible to everyone.
For patrons who are blind or visually impaired, we offer complimentary audio description for six performances of our produced shows, complimentary large print and Braille programs, and welcome service animals. We also offer a backstage, “Accessibility Tour” after the matinee on the second Saturday of our produced shows.
For patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing, we offer complimentary Assisted Listening Devices for all shows, complimentary Open Captioning devices for six performances of our produced shows, and Sign Interpreted performances for two performances.
Wells Fargo Invited Dress Rehearsal
This community outreach evening brings disadvantaged individuals and non-profit service agencies to the last dress rehearsal of our produced shows. This event is by invitation-only.
